Mumbai, October 6: Global pharmaceutical major Lupin Limited has launched Formoflo-G MDI, a novel fixed-dose triple combination metered-dose inhaler (MDI) for the treatment and management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in India. This comes after the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) formally approved the drug. Lupin is the first pharmaceutical company to introduce a single-strength, fixed-dose triple combination inhaler combining Formoterol Fumarate, Glycopyrronium Bromide, and Fluticasone Propionate in a pressurized metered-dose format.
This innovative drug integrates three active therapies, bringing hope to more than 55 million people living with COPD in India, a common ailment that is a leading cause of death and disability.
By delivering dual airway dilation together with anti-inflammatory action, the triple-action inhaler helps reduce lung inflammation, improve airflow, and prevent acute disease flare-ups (exacerbations). The pressurized metered-dose inhaler mechanism ensures consistent aerosol delivery directly into the lungs, providing an effective treatment option for patients who experience persistent respiratory symptoms despite using dual-combination therapies.
“As respiratory diseases continue to impact millions across India, access to effective therapies remains critical. Formoflo-G MDI reflects our commitment to addressing unmet patient needs through differentiated, high-quality therapies. By combining innovation with accessibility, we aim to improve outcomes for patients living with respiratory diseases.” Nilesh Gupta, Managing Director, Lupin, said in a press release.
“Formoflo-G MDI marks an important addition to our respiratory portfolio, bringing together three established therapies in a single inhaler. It strengthens Lupin’s respiratory portfolio and provides healthcare professionals with an important treatment option for appropriate COPD patients. It reflects our commitment to delivering innovative, high-quality therapies that help improve patient outcomes.” Rajeev Sibal, President – India Region Formulations, Lupin, added.
