Gangaikondan, October 23: Solar energy solutions provider Vikram Solar Limited is on track to commission its solar cell production facility at SIPCOT Industrial Park, Gangaikondan, by December 2026. The plant, which will be commissioned in phases, is co-located at its existing module plant, which was inaugurated in August this year.
With this development, Vikram Solar is aiming to become a leading integrated solar module manufacturer, with its Made In India cells helping us cut reliance on imports from China.
At full capacity, the plant will supply high efficiency TOPCon cells to Vikram Solar’s module production, enabling it to supply Made in India modules for India’s rooftop, PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM programs, as well as for global customers diversifying their supply chains.
When completed the Gangaikondan plant will be one of the few sites in India where all components of solar modules, including ingots, wafers, cells are made at one location, providing employment to more than 2000 people directly or indirectly. The facility is being developed through the company’s wholly owned subsidiary VSL Green Power Private Limited, at the nearly 200-acre integrated campus.
“Indian module makers, including us, have built their businesses around imported cells. Gangaikondan ends that for Vikram Solar. Cells are where the value, the technology and the risk in a module sit, and in December we start making them here. It is the most important step in our integration journey, and not the last: our roadmap runs from wafer to module, on Indian soil.” Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman & Managing Director, Vikram Solar, said in a press release.
