Ahmedabad, November 02: Ambuja Cements Limited, the Adani Group’s flagship cement major, has announced a massive ₹14,500 crore investment plan to ramp up capacity to up to 30 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The expansion strategy comes at a time when it is looking to strengthen the company’s footprint in supporting the nation’s accelerating infrastructure development.
The company is aiming to deploy the cash across 14 projects, with a combination of integrated manufacturing facilities and strategically located grinding units, with an aim to reach 149 MTPA by FY28 and up to 155 MTPA by FY30.
The expansion includes adding new grinding capacities across West, East and North India, with an aim to strengthen its upstream network required to support the expanded grinding footprint. In total, 14 standalone grinding units are planned, with investments ranging from ₹7,000 to ₹7,500 crore over the next two years, with most of the money coming from internal accruals, according to widely citied reports.
The program builds on capacity expansion already under execution, with the company adding 4.6 MTPA during the first half of Financial Year 2026-27. Ever since the Adani Group took over Ambuja Cement, the company has added 16.3 MTPA of cement manufacturing capacity with another 9 MTPA of clinker capacity.
“Our next phase of expansion is focused on quality of growth and creating a more balanced manufacturing network. By strengthening the link between clinker and grinding capacity and expanding closer to the high growth potential key markets, we are building greater flexibility into the network. As we scale, our focus is on combining market reach with logistics and cost efficiencies so that every capacity addition strengthens the competitiveness of the overall business. We have a vibrant supply chain ecosystem with stronger Brand Equity and share of Premium Cement in these markets. The growth footprint will compliment well with our value based strategic growth.
This phase of growth and additional debottlenecking initiatives will ramp up total capacity to 155 MTPA by FY’30. The total growth capex program is around ₹ 14,500 Cr. Apart from increasing market share, these capacities will also help to reduce manufacturing cost by bringing higher efficiencies. Being closer to the market, it will also help in reducing lead distance and thereby logistics cost. In all, it will pave the journey to achieve a cost of ₹ 4,000 PMT by FY’28”. Mr. Vinod Bahety, CEO – Cement Business, Adani Group, said in a press release.
