November 03: IIT Delhi has emerged as a breeding ground for innovation, experimentation and development of various advanced technology-backed solutions. In the wake of changing dynamics and needs, owing to the onset of the pandemic and other multitude of challenges, the institute has played a key role in bridging the gap to cater to the new-age problems in recent times. The institute has laid special emphasis on artificial intelligence in this regard.

Recently, IIT Delhi went on to establish an independent ‘School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI)’ on its campus. When it comes to the research and educational activity in AI, the institute is already a leader in Asia. A high number of quality publications in AI has given it the edge over the last ten years. Moreover, IITians have been spearheading the AI revolution in India on the back of astounding technical prowess.

One of the recent examples is that of Joydeep Sen Sharma, an IITian who revolutionized big data and AI. After graduating from IIT Delhi, he worked in various companies, including Yahoo, Oracle Corp, Dasti Appliance, Facebook. Joydeep became the founder of Qubole, the first vendor to introduce Auto-scaling Hadoop/Spark/Presto clusters, etc. He is currently working as an advisor at NextBillion.ai.

Similarly, many other names operating in the industry have the IIT connection, including the technology investors. For instance, RajatKhare of IIT Delhi has been mainly focused on deep-tech investments, including AI. “The advanced tech has the potential to change the way we operate in various sectors. It can not only enhance the efficiency of the operations but also open new endeavours in the coming time,” says RajatKhare.IIT Delhi‘s another gem is Prashant Warier, the co-founder and CEO of Qure.ai, a firm that uses deep learning to make healthcare accessible and affordable.

Qure.ai interprets CT Scans, X-Rays and MRIs using deep learning technology. It creates automated diagnostic reports to help radiologists make faster and more accurate decisions. Likewise, Srikanth Velamakanni, the co-founder and Group Chief Executive and Vice Chairman at Fractal Analytics, is another entrepreneur who aims to leverage the potential of AI to boost the decision of every human in an enterprise. His problem-solving skills and decision-making are backed by the IIT connection too.

Overall, it won’t be an exaggeration to say that IITians have spearheaded the AI revolution in India. Especially, IIT Delhi has been at the forefront of tech integration, opening new possibilities to benefit a number of sectors in the long run.
