New York [USA], April 21: With a bold visual style and an uncompromising narrative voice, Vivekananda Kondapalli, a formally trained filmmaker from the New York Film Academy (NYFA), is fast becoming one of the most compelling new storytellers in independent cinema.

Vivek is turning heads in the indie world with The Last Vigil, his debut feature film, a tense and emotionally charged thriller. The film has already been named a finalist at international festivals including:

    • Asian Independent Film Festival
    • Relay International Film Festival (Vienna)
    • London Independent Film Awards

More accolades are expected to follow ahead of its grand OTT release this summer. Hailing from Hyderabad, Vivek has successfully balanced a thriving career as a User Experience Designer in the software sector with his unfathomable passion for cinema. Soon after finishing his training at NYFA, Vivek made short films Rue The Day and Phoenix—the latter now streaming on Hungama, India’s popular OTT platform.

His debut feature, The Last Vigil, is a feature-length adaptation of Rue The Day, and has quickly made waves in the festival circuit. The SAG-AFTRA approved film, stars Brett Cullen (Joker, The Dark Knight Rises), Catherine Curtin (Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black), and Hunter Michael Kohl. The story follows Jordan Reynolds, an ex-convict who, after taking a job as a pizza delivery man, finds himself stranded with a mysterious family in a secluded lake house. Over the course of one stormy night, secrets unravel, and past traumas resurface—forcing Jordan to confront the darkest corners of himself and those around him.

Now set for a major OTT release this summer, the film’s haunting atmosphere, gripping performances, and stylistic precision have earned Vivek praise as a bold new talent in the indie filmmaking landscape.

“My dream is to make intense films on an epic scale,” Vivek shares. “To create worlds that are immersive, emotional, and visceral cinema that resonates universally but carries a strong artistic and cultural identity.”

While Vivek’s professional life has been rooted in the world of design and technology, his journey into filmmaking is a testament to creative perseverance. He continues to push boundaries, developing stories that bridge cultures and challenge norms, while upholding an uncompromising artistic vision.

With a rising profile, international recognition, and powerful stories still to tell, Vivekananda Kondapalli is a name to watch as South Asian cinema carves its space on the world stage.
